Both artists were part of the collective of ten artists known as Beijing East Village was formed in the early 1990s and comprised Wang Shihua, Cang Xin, Gao Yang, Zu Zhou, Ma Zongyin, Zhang Huan, Ma Liuming, Zhang Binbin, Duan Yingmei and Zhu Ming. The group became known for performance art and photography and this photograph by Lü Nan comes from a 20-minute live performance which took place in 1995 of To Add One Metre to an Unknown Mountain.

Shu Yang is an artist. Did an interesting project while on residency in Manchester, asking people in the street to photograph him wearing a Union Jack apron. He then photographed them too and exhibited the pair of photos alongside each other.

Duan Yuting
Duan Yuting founded the Lianzhou International Photo Festival. An annual photography exhibition in the city of the same name. Festival has a reputation as the foremost photography exhibition in China. A guest curator works with her each year to select the work.
Duan is based in Guangzhou and also in Beijing.
