Ma Zhongren and Zuoxiao Zuzhou

Both artists were part of the collective of ten artists known as Beijing East Village was formed in the early 1990s and comprised Wang Shihua, Cang Xin, Gao Yang, Zu Zhou, Ma Zongyin, Zhang Huan, Ma Liuming, Zhang Binbin, Duan Yingmei and Zhu Ming. The group became known for performance art and photography and this photograph by Lü Nan comes from a 20-minute live performance which took place in 1995 of To Add One Metre to an Unknown Mountain.

Zoe Butt

Zoe is Director of International Programmes at Long March Space, part of the 798 Art Zone in the Chaoyang District of Beijing. 

Interesting gallery. Runs programme of fellowships. Concentrating on Chinese artists who make work that challenges the social and political status quo in China and elsewhere. Regular programme of group shows. Also operates as a commercial gallery. 

Shu Yang

Shu Yang is an artist. Did an interesting project while on residency in Manchester, asking people in the street to photograph him wearing a Union Jack apron. He then photographed them too and exhibited the pair of photos alongside each other.

Cheng Guang Feng

Sound Sculptor. His studio is that of a 'mad scientist'! Glass test tubes and other paraphernalia crowd the surfaces. He fills these with green liquid and suspends them from various metal stands and frames. Feng wires this up to speakers and you can hear the installations ... 

Dong Bingfeng

Artist. Dong Bingfeng made a BEAUTIFUL triptych video of the people at work in a coastal fishing village. One of the men, one of the women, and one of both sexes working.

Duan Yuting

Duan Yuting founded the Lianzhou International Photo Festival. An annual photography exhibition in the city of the same name. Festival has a reputation as the foremost photography exhibition in China. A guest curator works with her each year to select the work. 
Duan is based in Guangzhou and also in Beijing.
